Valve Arrangement
- Left Side - Intake and Jet
- Right Side - ExhaustNOTE: Jet valve clearance adjustment must be made before intake valve is adjusted and after cylinder head is retightened.
- Remove valve cover and position cylinder No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke. Adjust clearance on valves marked "A". See Fig 1.
- Loosen adjustment screw lock nut on jet valve and intake valve 2 or more turns. Adjust clearance between jet valve stem and adjustment screw.
- Hold adjustment screw with screwdriver and tighten lock nut. Check adjustment and readjust if necessary. Jet valve spring is comparatively weak and must not be forced in when making adjustment.
- Adjust intake valve next, using same procedure, except jet valve lock nut remains tight. Check to ensure lock nuts are tight and clearance is correct. Continue adjusting remaining valves marked "A" using same sequence.
- Position cylinder No. 4 at TDC of compression stroke. Adjust valves marked "B", using same procedure previously outlined. See Fig 1. After completing adjustment, check idle speed and readjust if necessary.
