Installation (1.4L & 1.6L)

  1. To install cylinder head and intake manifold, reverse removal procedures. Gasket surfaces must be clean and new gaskets used. Use sealer on both sides of intake manifold gasket around water passages.
    NOTE: Avoid sliding cylinder head when installing in order to prevent damage to gasket and aligning dowels (when installed). Engine should not be run with valve cover off due to oil spray from rocker arms.
  2. Tighten cylinder head bolts in tightening sequence to initial torque of 25 ft. lbs. (34 N.m). See Fig 1. Repeat procedure, tightening bolts to final torque.

  3. Complete installation by reversing removal procedures. Temporarily set valve clearance to cold engine settings. Readjust to hot engine settings when engine reaches normal operating temperature. Install valve cover, air cleaner and breather hoses.
