Neutral Safety Switch: 1971-72

Switch also operates back-up lights. With selector cable properly adjusted and selector lever in "D", loosen switch lock nut and unscrew switch a short distance. Connect a test lamp across small terminals, lamp should light. Screw in switch until lamp just goes out. Mark the switch body opposite a mark on the transmission housing. Connect test lamp to the other two larger terminals, lamp should not light. Screw switch in until lamp just lights. Make a second mark on switch opposite mark on transmission. Unscrew switch until it is midway between the two marks. Carefully tighten lock nut, using a thin 11/16" open-end wrench about three inches long.

NOTE: Torque figure of five ft. lbs. is given for lock nut, but a torque wrench cannot be applied while unit is installed.

Switch body threads can easily be stripped if nut is over-tightened.
