Pinion Bearing Cup Installation

  1. Start both bearing cups into rear axle housing, then place rear spacer SP-6184 (9 3/4" axle), SP-5186 (9 1/4" axle) on main screw of tool, then put front pinion bearing cone, compression sleeve, centralizing washer, and main screw nut over main screw of tool, then lubricate drive pinion bearing cones with Sure-Grip or equivalent.
  2. Hold compression sleeve from turning with Tool C-3281, tighten nut to draw pinion bearing cups into axle housing bores. Permit tool to turn several times during tightening to allow bearing rollers to align, and to prevent brinneling cups.
    NOTE: Leave tool installed to measure pinion setting.
