DTC P1189: Oil Pressure Switch Signal High: Testing

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL PRESSURE parameter in PCM ENGINE 2 data list. If scan tool displays about 5 volts, go to next step. If scan tool does not display about 5 volts, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch harness connector. EOP switch is a 4-pin unit located in forward side of right engine block. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and EOP switch harness connector Tan/Black wire terminal. Start engine. If engine oil pressure indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If engine oil pressure indicator illuminates, go to step  5 .
  4. Test Tan/Black wire between EOP switch harness connector and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Natural harness connector C2 terminal No. 19 for open or high resistance. See Figure . If open or high resistance is not found, go to step  7 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  5. Test Black/White wire between EOP switch harness connector and ground point for open or high resistance. Ground point is located in lower left front of engine, on transaxle stud, below starter. If open or high resistance is not found, go to next step. If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for poor connections at EOP switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at PCM harness connectors. PCM is located in front left corner of engine compartment, inside air cleaner. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace EOP switch. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect any disconnected components and harness connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  conditions. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC resets as current, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset as current, system is okay.
