DTC P1189: Oil Pressure Switch Signal High: Description

Engine oil pressure switch closes (signal circuit is low) with low oil pressure and opens (signal circuit is high) with oil pressure more than 4.5 psi. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors oil pressure switch signal circuit and sends a class 2 message to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to illuminate low oil pressure indicator. If PCM detects oil pressure switch signal circuit is high for more than 10 seconds, DTC P1189 will set as FAILURE RECORD only and is not stored in FREEZE FRAME data.

A current DTC P1189 becomes a history DTC if condition for setting DTC is no longer present. A history DTC P1189 will clear after 40 consecutive ignition cycles if condition for setting DTC is no longer present. DTC will also clear when scan tool is used to clear DTCs.
