Test V: Low Washer Fluid Indicator Malfunction

NOTE: Reviewing system description and operation information will help determine if condition described by customer is normal operation, and may help determine correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists.
  1. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If description and operation has not been reviewed, see LOW WASHER FLUID INDICATOR  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Observe LOW WASHER FLUID indicator. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator illuminates, go to step  5 .
  3. Disconnect windshield washer fluid level sensor 2-pin harness connector. Windshield washer fluid level sensor is located in windshield washer reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector Black/White wire terminal. Wait 2 1/2 minutes. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator illuminates, go to next step. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator does not illuminate, go to step  7 .
  4. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector Black/White wire and Black wire terminals. Wait 2 1/2 minutes. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator illuminates, go to step  10 . If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  5. Disconnect windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector. Windshield washer fluid level sensor is located in windshield washer reservoir. Wait 2 1/2 minutes. If LOW WASHER FLUID indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If LOW WASH indicator turns off, go to step  8 .
  6. Check Black/White wire between windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal A10 for short to ground. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step  9 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  7. Check Black/White wire between windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector terminal A10 for an open or high resistance. See Figure . If an open or high resistance is not found, go to step  9 . If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  8. Check for poor connections at windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  11 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  9. Check for poor connections at IPC harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  12 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  10. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between windshield washer fluid level sensor harness connector and ground point. Ground point is located on left side of front end upper tie bar. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step  13 .
  11. Replace windshield washer fluid level sensor. After repair, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  13. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
