Test N: Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine. If Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) indicator remains on after bulb check, go to next step. If engine oil pressure indicator does not remain on after bulb check, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL PRESSURE parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 data list. If scan tool does not display more than one volt, go to next step. If scan tool displays more than one volt, go to step  10 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect EOP switch harness connector. EOP switch is a 4-pin unit located in forward side of right engine block. Turn ignition switch to START position. Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL PRESSURE parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 data list. If scan tool does not display more than one volt, go to next step. If scan tool displays more than one volt, go to step  6 .
  5. Test Tan/Black wire between EOP switch harness connector and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Natural harness connector C2 terminal No. 19 for short to ground. See Figure . PCM is located in front left corner of engine compartment, inside air cleaner. If short to ground is not found, go to step  7 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  6. Check for poor connections at EOP switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  7. Check for poor connections at PCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 .
  8. Replace EOP switch. After repair, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
