Test J: Chime Inoperative
- If audible warning systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warning systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warnings system diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform CHIME TEST in BCM OUTPUT CONTROLS. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Open driver door. If courtesy lights illuminate, go to next step. If courtesy lights do not illuminate, repair courtesy light problem as necessary. See appropriate ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn headlight switch to PARK position. Using scan tool, observe LIGHTS ON CHIME parameter in BCM INPUTS data list. If scan tool does not display ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays ON, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Blue 24-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . Connect a test light between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal A2 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . Turn headlight switch to PARK position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Test Light Blue wire between BCM and headlight switch for short to voltage. If short to voltage is not found, go to next step. If short to voltage is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Check for poor connections at headlight switch harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM harness connector. If poor connections are not found, go to step 10 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Replace multifunction switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Replace body control module. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
NOTE:
Light Blue wire from BCM changes to Dark Green wire at Black 23-pin in-line connector C201 to headlight switch harness connector. In-line connector C201 is located behind instrument panel, on right side of steering column.
NOTE:
Headlight switch is part of multifunction switch.
