Test G: Charge Indicator Always On

  1. Ensure battery is in good working condition. After ensuring battery is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe BATTERY VOLTAGE parameter in IPC data list. If scan tool displays 10-15 volts, go to next step. If scan tool does not display 10-15 volts, diagnose charging system problem. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
  3. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, system is okay.
