Test E: Change Oil Indicator Always On

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine. If CHANGE OIL indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CHANGE OIL indicator does not illuminate, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LIFE REMAINING parameter in PCM ENGINE 2 data list. If scan tool displays zero percent, go to next step. If scan tool does not display zero percent, go to step  5 .
  4. Reset CHANGE OIL indicator. See CHANGE OIL INDICATOR RESETTING  under PROGRAMMING. If CHANGE OIL indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If CHANGE OIL indicator turns off, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  6. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
