Test D: Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative
- If brake warning system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If brake warning system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform brake warning system diagnostic system check. See BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Observe BRAKE warning indicator while turning ignition switch to RUN position. If indicator illuminates briefly during bulb check, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate briefly during bulb check, go to step 11 .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Apply park brake. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector Purple wire terminal. If BRAKE warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, go to step 9 .
- Check for poor connections at brake fluid level switch. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check brake fluid level switch for proper operation. If switch does not operate properly, go to step 15 . If switch operates properly, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS .
- Disconnect park brake switch 1-pin harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and park brake switch 1-pin harness connector Light Blue wire terminal. If BRAKE warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next. If indicator illuminates, go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Purple harness connector C2. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . Test Purple wire between park brake switch 1-pin harness connector and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A2 for and open or high resistance. See Figure . If an open or high resistance is not found, go to step 12 . If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. Test Purple wire between brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector and IPC harness connector terminal B3 for an open or high resistance. See Figure . If an open or high resistance is not found, go to step 11 . If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor case ground contact at park brake switch. If poor ground contact is not found, go to step 13 . If poor ground contact is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC. If poor connections are not found, go to step 14 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM. If poor connections are not found, go to step 16 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace brake fluid level switch. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
