Test C: Brake Warning Indicator Always On
- If brake warning system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If brake warning system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform brake warning system diagnostic system check. See BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check brake fluid level. If brake fluid level is okay, go to next step. If brake fluid level is not okay, repair hydraulic brake system as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Release park brake. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in BCM INPUTS data list. If scan tool displays ACTIVE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ACTIVE, go to step 5 .
- Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in IPC INPUTS data list. If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 6 . If scan tool displays ON, go to step 12 .
- Disconnect park brake switch 1-pin harness connector. Using scan tool, observe PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter. If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to step 7 . If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to step 9 .
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Using scan tool, observe BRAKE WARNING LIGHT parameter. If scan tool does not display ON, go to step 8 . If scan tool displays ON, go to step 10 .
- Test Light Blue wire between park brake switch 1-pin harness connector and BCM Purple 16-pin harness connector C2 terminal A2 for short to ground. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step 11 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Test Purple wire between brake fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) terminal B3 for short to ground. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to step 11 . If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at park brake switch. If poor connections are not found, go to step 13 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at brake fluid level switch. If poor connections are not found, go to step 14 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM. If poor connections are not found, go to step 15 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Check for poor connections at IPC. If poor connections are not found, go to step 16 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace brake fluid level switch. After repair, go to step 17 .
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go step 17 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
