Test AF: TRAC Off Indicator Always On

  1. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ABS diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe TRACTION SWITCH parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step  4 .
  3. Using scan tool, observe TRACTION SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. Activate traction control switch. If TRACTION SWITCH parameter does not change state, go to next step. If TRACTION SWITCH parameter changes state, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect traction control switch harness connector. Using scan tool, observe TRACTION SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to next step. If scan tool displays OFF, go to step  7 .
  5. Test Brown/White wire between traction control switch harness connector and BCM Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal B6 for short to ground. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If short to ground is not found, go to next step. If short to ground is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10
  6. Check for poor connections at BCM. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at traction control switch. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace traction control switch. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
