Test Ag: TRAC Off Indicator Inoperative

  1. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ABS diagnostic system check. See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe TRACTION SWITCH parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) data list. Activate traction control switch. If TRACTION SWITCH parameter does not change state, go to next step. If TRACTION SWITCH parameter changes state, go to DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect traction control switch harness connector. Connect a fused 3-amp jumper wire between ground and traction control switch harness connector Brown/White wire terminal. Using scan tool, observe TRACTION SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If scan tool does not display ON, go to next step. If scan tool displays ON, go to step  5 .
  4. Test Brown/White wire between traction control switch harness connector and BCM Blue 24-pin harness connector C3 terminal B6 an open or high resistance. See Figure . BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel, to left of steering column. See Figure . If open or high resistance is not found, go to step  6 . If open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  5. Test Black wire between traction control switch harness connector and ground point for an open or high resistance. Ground point is located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See appropriate GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If an open or high resistance is not found go to step  7 . If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for poor connections at BCM. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at traction control switch. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9 . If poor connections are found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace traction control switch. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
