Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTCs P0443, P0449, P0452 or P0453 is also set, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If DTCs P0443, P0449, P0452 or P0453 is not set, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, monitor FTP sensor. If scan tool indicates that fuel tank pressure is within -0.5 to 0.5 in. H2O, go to step 5. If scan tool does not indicate that fuel tank pressure is within -0.5 to 0.5 in. H2O, go to next step.
- Disconnect FTP sensor harness connector (sensor located on top of fuel tank). Using scan tool, monitor FTP sensor. If scan tool indicates fuel tank pressure is within -0.5 to 0.5 in. H2O, go to step 6. If scan tool does not indicate that fuel tank pressure is within -0.5 to 0.5 in. H2O, go to DTC P0453 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect purge pipe from EVAP canister purge solenoid. Install a vacuum gauge to EVAP canister purge port. Disconnect EVAP canister purge solenoid harness connector. Monitor vacuum on vacuum gauge. Start and operate engine at idle. Increase idle to 1200-1500 RPM. If vacuum increases, go to step 7. If vacuum does not increase, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Replace FTP sensor. After replacing sensor, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Replace EVAP canister purge solenoid. After replacing canister purge solenoid, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, review and record the FREEZE FRAME/FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, clear DTCs and perform Service Bay Test. If scan tool indicates that service bay test passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that service bay test passed, go to step 3.
- Using scan tool, select the Review Info option. If scan tool displays any undiagnosed DTCs, diagnose affected DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
