Brake Warning Indicator Always On
- Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Release parking brake. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select BCM DATA and monitor parking brake switch input. If scan tool display indicates that parking brake is off, go to next step. If display is not as indicated, go to step 4
.
- Disconnect brake fluid level indicator switch. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS
. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE light is off, go to step 9
. If BRAKE light stays on, go to step 10
.
- Disconnect parking brake electrical connector. If scan tool display indicates that parking brake is off, go to next step. If display is not as indicated, go to step 6
.
- Replace parking brake switch. See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 13
.
- Using DVOM, check for short circuit to ground in Light Blue wire between parking brake switch and BCM connector C2 terminal A2. See Figure
. Also see COMPONENT LOCATIONS
. If circuit is shorted to ground, go to next step. If circuit is okay, go to step 8
.
- Repair short circuit in Light Blue wire between parking brake switch and BCM connector C2 terminal A2. Go to step 13
.
- Perform BCM diagnostic system check. Go to BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. Go to step 13
.
- Replace brake fluid level indicator switch. Go to step 13
.
- Remove instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using DVOM, check for short circuit to ground in Purple wire between brake fluid level indicator switch and instrument panel cluster connector terminal B3. See Fig 1
. If circuit is shorted to ground, go to next step. If circuit is okay, go to step 12
.
- Repair short circuit in Light Blue wire between parking brake switch and BCM connector C2 terminal A2. Go to step 13
.
- Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition to LOCK position. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
