Speedometer And/Or Odometer Inoperative
- Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. Go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle and verify speedometer/odometer operation. If display is operating normally, check for intermittent loose, corroded or broken wiring or connections. If display is not operating normally, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine and select IPC DATA MENU. Test drive vehicle and compare scan tool reading to speedometer reading. If indicated speeds are the same, go to POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If indicated speeds are not the same, go to next step.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle again and compare scan tool reading to speedometer reading. If indicated speeds are the same, system is okay. If problem is still present, go back to step 2 .
