Fuel Gauge Is Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Perform POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Go to next step.
  2. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. Go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on and select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu on scan tool. Under SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, select OUTPUT CONTROL and FUEL GAUGE SWEEP TEST. If fuel gauge needle moves from empty, to full and back to empty when sweep test is commanded, go to POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel gauge needle does not move from empty, to full and back to empty when sweep test is commanded, go to next step.
  4. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
