Front Brake Rotor: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove caliper and bracket as assembly, and wire aside. Mark rotor in relation to hub for installation reference. Remove rotor. Ensure rotors are within specification. See FRONT DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  2. If necessary, use Hub Cleaning Kit (J 42450-A) to thoroughly clean corrosion/rust from rotor hub. With rotor still mounted on brake lathe, place a non-directional finish on rotor surfaces. Using a power sanding disc with 120 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper for a minimum of 60 seconds on each side of rotor. A sanding block with 150 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper may be used in place of power sanding disc. After sanding rotor, clean surface with denatured alcohol. If necessary, use Rotor/Drum Flange Resurfacing Kit (J 41013) to thoroughly clean any corrosion from wheel bearing flange.
