Rear Brake Caliper: Installation

  1. Replace caliper bolt boots if cut, torn or deteriorated. See Figure. Pull boots back to inspect sleeves. Replace caliper bolts and pins, boots and sleeves. If bolts, pins or sleeves are corroded, replace components as necessary. DO NOT polish to remove corrosion.
  2. If not already replaced, remove pin boot from caliper assembly. Install small end of pin boot over pin sleeve until boot is seated in pin groove. Hold caliper in position, and carefully install caliper onto pin sleeve. Install large end of pin boot into caliper body groove and continue until caliper is fully onto pin sleeve.
  3. Pivot caliper assembly down using care not to damage piston or caliper bolt sleeve boots. After caliper is in position, check pad retaining clips. Install caliper bolt, and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Install parking brake cable bracket (with cable attached). Connect brake hose (if disconnected), using NEW copper gaskets. Tighten brake hose bolt to specification. Install wheels. Lower vehicle. Fill brake fluid reservoir. Bleed brake system (if brake hose was disconnected). See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . Seat brake pads. Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE (DISC)  under ADJUSTMENTS. Road test vehicle.
