Front Brake Pads: Installation

  1. Clean outside surface of caliper piston boots with denatured alcohol. Slowly compress piston(s) into bore with a "C" clamp, being careful not to cock piston to one side or damage piston boot. See FRONT BRAKE CALIPER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using small plastic or wood tool, lift inner edge of boot next to piston and press out any trapped air. Reposition boot so it lays flat with convolutions in proper position.
  2. Install inner pad, snapping retainer into place. Ensure pad lays flat against piston(s). Ensure boots are not touching pads. Install outer pad with wear sensor at trailing edge of pad (forward wheel rotation). Ensure pad lays flat against caliper.
  3. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Burnish brake pads and rotors by selecting smooth road with little or no traffic, accelerating vehicle to 30 MPH, and bring vehicle to stop without allowing brakes to lock. Repeat this 20 times. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops to avoid overheating.
