Master Cylinder: Notes

  1. Remove master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Secure master cylinder mounting flange in bench vise so rear of primary piston is accessible.
  2. Wipe reservoir cap clean. Check reservoir cap and diaphragm for cuts, cracks, nicks or deformation. Replace as necessary. Remove brake fluid level sensor from master cylinder reservoir, using needle nose pliers to depress tabs. Carefully tap out reservoir retaining pins. Remove reservoir and discard seals. Remove retainer clip while depressing primary piston with smooth, round-ended tool. Remove primary piston assembly from cylinder bore.
  3. Remove primary and secondary pistons, return spring and seals by applying low pressure compressed air into upper outlet port at blind end of bore, with all other ports plugged. See Figure.
