Test S: No Communication With EBCM/EBTCM (1999 Lumina)

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine OFF. Install scan tool. If scan tool communicates with other modules in serial data line, such as PCM, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with other modules, go to appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect EBCM connector C1. See EBCM/EBTCM LOCATION  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a DVOM, measure resistance of Tan wire between EBCM connector C1 terminal "A1" and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 9. Resistance should be 0.2-5.0 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to step  5. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Repair open or high resistance in Tan wire between EBCM connector C1 terminal "A1" and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 9. After repair, perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Inspect ABS fuse No. 13 (5-amp), located in fuse block, right side of dash. Replace fuse if blown. Reinstall fuse. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between EBCM connector C1 terminal "A9" (Brown wire) and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to step  7. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  6. Repair open or short to ground in Brown wire between EBCM connector C1 terminal "A9" and fuse No. 13. After repairs, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect EBCM connector C1. Disconnect EBCM connector C2. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between EBCM connector C2 terminal "D" (Black wire) and ground. Resistance should be 0.2-10 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Black wire between EBCM connector C2 terminal "D" and ground.
  8. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
