Test M: Traction Control Warning Indicator Inoperative (1999 Lumina & 1999 Monte CARLO)

- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off while observing amber LOW TRAC indicator. LOW TRAC indicator should illuminate for approximately 3 seconds, then turn off. If LOW TRAC indicator operates as specified, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If LOW TRAC indicator does not operate as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect EBCM 24-pin connector C1. See EBCM/EBTCM LOCATION under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect a fused jumper wire between EBCM harness connector C1 terminal "A6" (Light Green wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. If LOW TRAC indicator illuminates, go to step 7. If LOW TRAC indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument panel connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Light Green wire between EBCM harness connector C1 terminal "A6" and instrument cluster connector terminal "C8". Resistance should be 0.2-10 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to step 6. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
- Repair short to voltage in Light Green wire between EBCM harness connector C1 terminal "A6" and instrument cluster connector terminal "C8". After repair, go to next step.
- Check all related connectors for damage, poor terminal contact and terminal corrosion. Repair or replace connector terminals as necessary. Reconnect all disconnected connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off while observing amber LOW TRAC indicator. LOW TRAC indicator should illuminate for approximately 3 seconds, then turn off. If LOW TRAC indicator operates as specified, repair is complete. If LOW TRAC indicator does not operate as specified, go to next step.
- Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
