Test J: ETS Off Warning Indicator Inoperative (1998 Cavalier, 1998 Grand Am, 1998 Skylark & 1998 SUNFIRE)

- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, then LAMP TEST. Using scan tool, command amber ETS OFF warning indicator on. If indicator turns on, go to next step. If indicator does not turn on, go to step 4.
- Using scan tool, select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, then LAMP TEST. Using scan tool, command amber ETS OFF warning indicator on and off. If indicator turns on and off as commanded, go to step 7. If indicator does not turn on and off as commanded, go to next step.
- Check all related connectors for damage, poor terminal contact and terminal corrosion. If a problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 6.
- Repair or replace connector terminals as necessary. After repair, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
- Repair instrument panel cluster as necessary. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Malfunction is not currently present.
