Test F: ETS Off Warning Indicator Always On (1998 Cavalier, 1998 Grand Am, 1998 Skylark & 1998 SUNFIRE)

- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Install scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select POWERTRAIN. Enter vehicle information into scan tool. Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO and then STORE INFO. If no PCM DTCS exist, go to next step. If any PCM DTCs are set or other failure records are present, diagnose and repair any stored PCM DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Using scan tool, exit back to applications menu. Using scan tool, select BODY. Enter vehicle information into scan tool. Using scan tool, select SDL MONITOR MODE and then ABS TO IPC SDL MODE. If scan tool displays ETS OFF T/T ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ETS OFF T/T ON, diagnose instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
