DTC C1348: Right TCS Motor Free Spins (Century & Regal)

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Install scan tool. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If DTC C1361 is also set as current, go to DTC C1361. If DTC C1361 is not also set as current, go to next step.
  3. Pump brake pedal until firm to deplete brake booster vacuum reservoir. Using scan tool, select MISC TESTS, and then select MANUAL CONTROL. Ensure no downward pressure exists on brake pedal. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR RELEASE, and release right TCS motor. Observe right TCS motor commanded current and right TCS motor feedback current. If commanded current and feedback current are about 10 amps, go to next step. If commanded current and feedback current are not 10 amps, go to step 7)  .
  4. Raise and support vehicle so that drive wheels are about 6 inches off the ground. Ensure no downward pressure exists on brake pedal. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR APPLY, and apply right TCS motor. Observe right TCS motor commanded current and right TCS motor feedback current. If commanded current and feedback current are about 8 amps, go to next step. If commanded current and feedback current are not 8 amps, go to step 7)  .
  5. With right TCS motor still applied, have an assistant attempt to rotate right wheel. If right wheel could be rotated, go to step 7)  . If right wheel could not be rotated, go to next step.
  6. Ensure no downward pressure exists on brake pedal. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR RELEASE, and release right TCS motor. Have an assistant attempt to rotate right wheel. If right wheel could be rotated, go to step 23)  . If right wheel could not be rotated, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 4-pin TCS motor pack connector. Disconnect 8-pin EBTCM connector C3. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal "C" (Light Green wire) of motor pack connector (harness side) and "F" (Light Green wire) of EBTCM connector C3. If resistance is equal to or less than 1.5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 1.5 ohms, go to step 16)  .
  8. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal "D" (Dark Green wire) of motor pack connector (harness side) and "E" (Dark Green wire) of EBTCM connector C3. If resistance is equal to or less than 1.5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 1.5 ohms, go to step 17)  .
  9. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals "C" (Light Green wire) and "D" (Dark Green wire) of motor pack connector (component side). If resistance is equal to or less than 1.5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 1.5 ohms, go to step 18)  .
  10. Turn ignition off. Remove TCS modulator/motor pack assembly from vehicle. See TCS MODULATOR/MOTOR PACK ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove modulator gear cover. Check for a stripped motor pack right gear. Motor pack is unit with 3 small gears. Right gear is furthest forward gear when modulator is installed in vehicle. If motor pack gear is stripped, go to step 18)  . If motor pack gear is not stripped, go to next step.
  11. Check for a stripped modulator right gear. Modulator is unit with 3 large gears. Right gear is furthest forward gear when modulator is installed in vehicle. If modulator gear is stripped, go to step 19)  . If modulator gear is not stripped, go to next step.
  12. Reconnect 4-pin TCS motor pack connector. Reconnect EBTCM connector C3. Carefully secure TCS modulator/motor pack assembly into vehicle so gears are observable. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, select MANUAL CONTROL. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR APPLY, and apply right TCS motor while observing modulator right gear set. Right gear is furthest forward gear when modulator is installed in vehicle. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR RELEASE, and release right TCS motor while observing modulator right gear set. Using scan tool, select right TCS MOTOR APPLY, and apply right TCS motor while observing modulator right gear set. If modulator right gear set moves in both directions at least one full revolution, go to next step. If modulator right gear set does not move in both directions at least one full revolution, go to step 18)  .
  13. Turn ignition off. Separate modulator from motor pack. Grasp right modulator gear and attempt to rotate gear. If gear can be rotated 8 full revolutions lock to lock, go to step 20)  . If gear cannot be rotated 8 full revolutions lock to lock, go to next step.
  14. Disconnect 4-pin TCS motor pack connector. Disconnect 8-pin EBTCM connector C3. Check 4-pin TCS motor pack connector and 8-pin EBTCM connector C3 for poor terminal contact, corrosion or damage. If connectors are faulty, go to step 21)  . If connectors are okay, go to next step.
  15. Reinstall modulator gear cover. Reinstall TCS modulator/motor pack assembly into vehicle. Reconnect 4-pin TCS motor pack connector. Reconnect EBTCM connector C3. Start engine and test drive vehicle obtaining speed of at least 10 MPH. Stop vehicle and turn ignition off. Repeat drive cycle sequence 2 more times. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If DTC C1348 is set in last 3 drive cycles, go to step 22)  . If DTC C1348 is not set in last 3 drive cycles, go to step 23)  .
  16. Repair open or high resistance in Light Green wire between motor pack and EBTCM.
  17. Repair open or high resistance in Dark Green wire between motor pack and EBTCM.
  18. Replace motor pack.
  19. Replace modulator gear.
  20. Replace modulator.
  21. Replace all faulty terminals or connectors.
  22. Replace EBTCM.
  23. Malfunction is not currently present. An intermittent may be caused by a mechanical system component sticking, binding, or slipping. Frequency of malfunction can be determined by using enhanced diagnostic function of scan tool. If DTC only sets once and DTC C1361 also sets, see DTC C1361. If enhanced diagnostics indicate DTC sets during TCS, see DTC C1361.
