DTC C1294: BRAKELIGHT Switch Circuit Always Active
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure no pressure is applied to brake pedal. Observe rear brakelights. If rear brake lights are on, go to next step. If rear brake lights are not on, go to step 5) .
- Disconnect brakelight switch connector. If rear brake lights are on, go to step 8) . If rear brake lights are not on, go to next step.
- Check for proper adjustment of brakelight switch. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article. If brakelight switch is properly adjusted, go to step 10) . If brakelight switch is not properly adjusted, go to step 9) .
- Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. See EBCM/EBTCM LOCATION under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage between brake switch input circuit of EBCM/EBTCM connector and ground. If voltage is 0-2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 0-2 volts, go to step 8) .
- Turn ignition off. Check EBCM/EBTCM connector and harness connector for poor terminal contact, corrosion or damage. If connectors are faulty, go to step 11) . If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Start engine and test drive vehicle obtaining speed of at least 25 MPH. Repeat drive sequence 2 more times. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If DTC C1294 sets in last 3 drive cycles, go to step 12) . If DTC C1294 does not set in last 3 drive cycles, go to step 13) .
- Repair short to voltage in brake switch input circuit between brakelight switch and EBCM/EBTCM.
- Adjust brakelight switch. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article.
- Replace brakelight switch.
- Replace all faulty terminals or connectors.
- Replace EBCM/EBTCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Malfunction is not currently present. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a broken wire inside insulation. Frequency of malfunction can be determined by using enhanced diagnostic function of scan tool. Check for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wiring connections, or damaged wiring harness.
