DTC C1276: Left Front Solenoid Circuit Open Or Shorted To Ground
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. See EBCM/EBTCM LOCATION under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect left front solenoid valve connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between left front solenoid valve control circuit of EBCM/EBTCM connector and ground. If resistance to ground is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 13) .
- Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance of left front solenoid valve control circuit between EBCM/EBTCM connector and left front solenoid valve connector (harness side). If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 14) .
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of left front solenoid valve connector (component side). If resistance is 2.5-5.0 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 2.5-5.0 ohms, go to step 15) .
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of switched battery input circuit between electronic brake control relay connector and left front solenoid valve connector (component side). If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 9) .
- Check EBCM/EBTCM connector and harness connector for poor terminal contact, corrosion or damage. Check left front solenoid valve connector and harness connector for poor terminal contact, corrosion or damage. If connectors are faulty, go to step 16) . If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Check left front solenoid valve control circuit for damage which could result in short to ground with connectors connected. If wire is damaged, go to step 17) . If wire is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Reconnect left front brake solenoid valve connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If DTC C1276 is set as current, go to step 21) . If DTC C1276 is not set as current, go to step 22) .
- Remove left front ABS solenoid valve fuse. On all models, using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of fuse. See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 18) .
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of switched battery input circuit between electronic brake control relay connector and left front ABS solenoid valve fuse. See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 19) .
- Using DVOM, measure resistance of switched battery input circuit of ABS Solenoid Valve fuse and left front solenoid valve connector (harness side). See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step 12)
. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 20)

Application Fuse "J" Body ABS MINI-FUSE "N" Body Achieva, Cutlass, Grand Am (1998), Malibu & Skylark ABS MINI-FUSE Alero & Grand Am (1999) EVO/ABS Fuse "W" Body ABS Fuse - Replace left front ABS solenoid valve fuse with a known-good fuse. After repairs, go to step 8) .
- Repair short to ground in left front solenoid valve control circuit between left front solenoid valve and EBCM/EBTCM.
- Repair open or high resistance in left front solenoid valve control circuit between left front solenoid valve and EBCM/EBTCM.
- Replace left front brake solenoid valve.
- Replace all faulty terminals or connectors.
- Repair damaged left front solenoid valve control circuit.
- Replace left front ABS solenoid valve fuse. See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table.
- Repair open or high resistance in switched battery input circuit between electronic brake control relay and left front ABS solenoid valve fuse. See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table.
- Repair open or high resistance in switched battery input circuit between left front solenoid valve and left front ABS solenoid valve fuse. See LEFT FRONT ABS SOLENOID VALVE FUSE IDENTIFICATION table.
- Replace EBCM/EBTCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Malfunction is not currently present. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a broken wire inside insulation. Frequency of malfunction can be determined by using enhanced diagnostic function of scan tool. Check for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wiring connections, or damaged wiring harness.
