DTC C1275: Serial Data Malfunction (ALERO & 1999 Grand Am)

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, display DTCs. Make note of any DTCs and see DTC table. If no DTCs are displayed, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If DTC C1275 sets, go to step 5)  . If DTC C1275 does not set, go to next step.
  4. Start engine and test drive vehicle at a speed of at least 10 mph. Repeat this drive cycle sequence 2 more times. If DTC C1275 set in last 3 drive cycles, go to next step. If DTC C1275 did not set in last 3 drive cycles, see INTERMITTENTS & POOR CONNECTIONS under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  5. Perform POWERTRAIN OBD SYSTEM CHECK. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If vehicle passes, go to next step.
  6. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
