DTC C1275: Serial Data Malfunction (ACHIEVA, ALERO, Grand Am, Intrigue, Skylark & "J" Body)

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, exit back to applications menu. Using scan tool, select body portion. Enter vehicle information into scan tool. Using scan tool, select SDL MONITOR MODE and then ABS TO IPC SDL MODE. Engage parking brake. If scan tool displays BRAKE T/T ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BRAKE T/T ON, diagnose instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Connect a jumper between brake fluid level switch connector terminals. If scan tool displays BRAKE T/T ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BRAKE T/T ON, go to step 5)  .
  4. Malfunction is not currently present. Any message being transmitted on serial data line can be observed with scan tool in SDL MONITOR (ABS to IPC mode). Frequency of malfunction can be determined by using enhanced diagnostic function of scan tool. Check for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wiring connections, or damaged wiring harness.
  5. Replace EBCM. See ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE/ ELECTRONIC BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (EBCM/EBTCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
