DTC C1211: Abs Warning Indicator Circuit Malfunction (Lumina & Monte CARLO)
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, select MISC TESTS and then LAMP TEST. Using scan tool, turn on and then flash ABS warning indicator. If indicator illuminates and flashes, go to step 23) . If indicator does not illuminate or flash, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If indicator illuminates and remains illuminated, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, go to step 10) .
- Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If any other DTCs are set, go to appropriate DTC. If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 24-pin EBCM connector C1. See EBCM/EBTCM LOCATION under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect a fused jumper between ABS warning indicator control circuit (White wire) of EBCM connector C1 and ground. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If ABS warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 8) .
- Turn ignition off. Remove jumper. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance of ABS warning indicator control circuit (White wire) between EBCM connector C1 and instrument cluster connector C1. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 20) .
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ABS warning indicator control circuit (White wire) of EBCM connector C1 and ground. If voltage is 0-2 volts, diagnose instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If voltage reading is not 0-2 volts, go to step 21) .
- Turn ignition off. Check EBCM connector C1 for poor terminal contact, corrosion or damage. If connector faults are present, go to step 19) . If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect EBCM connector C1. Reconnect instrument cluster connector C1 if disconnected. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, display DTCs. If DTC C1211 resets, go to step 22) . If DTC C1211 does not reset, see INTERMITTENTS & POOR CONNECTIONS under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
- Check all other instrument cluster warning indicator bulbs. If other bulbs illuminate properly, go to next step. If other bulbs do not illuminate properly, go to step 13) .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 24-pin EBCM connector C1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If ABS warning indicator illuminates, go to step 8) . If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ABS warning indicator control circuit (White wire) of EBCM connector C1 and ground. If resistance is infinite, diagnose instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 18) .
- Turn ignition off. Remove and check ABS indicator fuse (Fuse 39). If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 16) .
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between instrument cluster power supply circuit (Pink wire) of fuse block and ground. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to step 17) .
- Repair short to ground in Pink wire between fuse block and instrument cluster. After repairs, go to step 17) .
- Repair open in Pink wire between fuse block and instrument cluster.
- Replace ABS indicator fuse (fuse No. 39) with a known good fuse.
- Repair short to ground in White wire between instrument cluster and EBCM.
- Repair EBCM connector C1. After repairs, go to step 9) .
- Repair open or high resistance in White wire between instrument cluster and EBCM.
- Repair short to voltage in White wire between instrument cluster and EBCM.
- Replace EBCM.
- Malfunction is not currently present. An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a broken wire inside insulation. Scan tool LAMP TEST function can be used to command indicator on while checking for an intermittent malfunction in ABS warning indicator circuitry. Frequency of malfunction can be determined by using enhanced diagnostic function of scan tool. Check for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wiring connections, or damaged wiring harness.
