1999 "W" Body

  1. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) under left side of instrument panel. If scan tool is not communicating with EBCM/EBTCM, go to next step. If scan tool is communicating with EBCM/EBTCM, go to step 3)  .
  2. Observe scan tool display. If scan tool communicates with other modules on serial data line, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with other modules on serial data line, see appropriate diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Disconnect scan tool. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. Carefully road test vehicle for several minutes over different road surfaces, and with several turns, at a speed above 15 MPH. Connect scan tool to DLC and display ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If any current DTCs are set, go to appropriate DTC. If no current DTCs are set, go to next step.
  4. Remove scan tool from DLC. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. If ABS indicator turns on, then turns off after several seconds, go to step 8)  . If ABS indicator does not do this, go to step 6)  .
  5. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON position, with engine off. If LOW TRACTION indicator turns on, then turns off after several seconds, go to next step. If LOW TRACTION indicator does not do this, go to step 7)  .
  6. If ABS indicator stays on, see ABS INDICATOR ON, NO DTC SET test. If ABS indicator does not stay on, see ABS INDICATOR OFF, NO DTC SET test.
  7. If LOW TRACTION indicator stays on, see LOW TRACTION INDICATOR ALWAYS ON test. If LOW TRACTION indicator does not stay on, see LOW TRACTION INDICATOR INOPERATIVE test.
  8. Inspect system for any history DTCs. If any history DTCs are present, go to next step. If no history DTCs are present, system is okay.
  9. Refer to DTC table for history DTCs. Read diagnostic aids and conditions for setting DTC. Unplug scan tool from DLC, if not already removed. Carefully road test vehicle for several minutes, at a speed above 15 MPH. Leave vehicle running and plug scan tool into DLC. Using scan tool, display ABS DTCs. If a history DTC set as a current DTC while vehicle was being driven, go to DTC list for appropriate DTC diagnosis. If no history DTCs are set, system is okay.
