Test G: No Communication With EBCM/EBTCM

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Check ABS fuse (10 amp) If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 5)  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove ABS fuse and disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal A11 and ground. If there is not continuity to ground, go to step  18 . If there is continuity to ground, go to next step.
  4. Repair circuit No. 1339 for a short to ground.
  5. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between pinout box terminals A11 and "D". If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step  7 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to next step.
  6. Repair circuit No. 1339 for an open or high resistance.
  7. Check ABS Maxi fuse (60 amp) in underhood accessory wiring junction block. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  10 .
  8. Turn ignition off. Remove ABS Maxi fuse (60 amp) and disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal "A" and ground then terminal "B" and ground. If there is not continuity to ground, go to step 18)  . If there is continuity to ground, go to next step.
  9. Repair circuit No. 1442A or 1442B for a short to ground.
  10. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between pinout box terminals "A" and "D" then terminals "B" and "D". If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step  12 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to next step.
  11. Repair circuit No. 1442A or 1442B for an open or high resistance.
  12. Turn ignition off and remove shorting bar from harness connector SP205 (SP205 is harness connector that feeds data link connector). Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal B7 of pinout box and terminal "E" of harness connector SP205. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  14 . If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step.
  13. Repair circuit No. 1122 for an open or high resistance between SP205 and EBCM/EBTCM.
  14. Turn ignition off and remove shorting bar from harness connector SP205 (SP205 is harness connector that feeds data link connector). Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminal B7 of pinout box and ground. If there is not continuity, go to step  16 . If there is continuity, go to next step.
  15. Repair circuit No. 1122 for a short to ground.
  16. Turn ignition off. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal "C" and ground and then terminal "D" and ground. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  18 . If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step.
  17. Repair circuit No. 251A or 251B for an open or high resistance.
  18. Turn ignition off. Inspect EBCM/EBTCM, battery terminals and ground connections for terminal damage, corrosion or poor contacts. Make necessary repairs. If repairs are not required, go to next step.
  19. Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
