Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Press brake pedal. If brake lights illuminate, go to next step. If brake lights do not illuminate, repair exterior lights system.
  3. Inspect both EBCM/EBTCM and harness connector for terminal damage, poor terminal contact and terminal corrosion. Repair as necessary.
  4. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect stoplight switch connector C1. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to EBCM/EBTCM harness connector only. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal C7 and C1 terminal "B". If resistance measures 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance does not measure 0-2 ohms, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair open or high resistance in circuit No. 17 between stoplight switch and EBCM/EBTCM.
  6. Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
