Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. If rear brake lamps are illuminated without pressure applied to brake pedal, go to next step. If rear brake lamps are not illuminated without pressure applied to brake pedal, go to step  4 .
  3. Disconnect stoplight switch connector C1. If brake lamps are still illuminated, go to step 5)  . If brake lamps are not illuminated, go to step  6 .
  4. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM harness connector. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between pinout box terminals C7 and "D". If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair circuit No. 17 for short to voltage.
  6. Adjust or replace stoplight switch as necessary.
  7. Reconnect all connectors. Connect scan tool to DLC. Select ABS DATA DISPLAY. Start engine, and drive vehicle above 25 MPH and back to 0 MPH. Drive vehicle again, accelerating above 25 MPH and back to 0 MPH. If DTC sets, replace EBCM/EBTCM.
