Testing Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Any Wheel Speed Sensor DTCs that are present must be diagnosed first.
- Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Press brake pedal. If brake lights come on, go to next step. If brake lights do not come on, go to step 4 . If resistance is not infinite, go to next step.
- Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between pinout box terminals C7 and "D" while an assistant presses on brake pedal. If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step 13 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to step 14 .
- Check STOP LAMPS fuse in instrument panel electrical panel. If fuse is blown, go to step 7 . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect stoplight switch connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between stoplight switch terminal "A" and ground. If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to step 7 .
- Connect a fused jumper wire between stoplight switch harness connector terminals "A" and "B". If brake lamps come on, go to step 11 . If brake lamps do not come on, go to step 15 .
- Repair circuit No. 140 for open or high resistance.
- Remove STOP LAMPS fuse. Disconnect stoplight switch connector C1. Using DVOM, check for continuity between stoplight switch connector C1 terminal "A" and ground. If resistance is not infinite, go to next step. If resistance is infinite, go to step 10 .
- Repair circuit No. 140 for short to ground.
- Disconnect cruise control module. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM. Remove stoplight bulbs from their sockets. Using DVOM, check for continuity between stoplight switch connector C1 terminal "B" and ground. If resistance is not infinite, go to step 12 . If resistance is infinite, go to step 13 .
- Adjust or replace stoplight switch as necessary.
- Repair circuit No. 17 for short to ground.
- Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
- Repair circuit No. 17 for open between S205 and EBCM/EBTCM.
- Repair circuit No. 17 for open between stoplight switch connector and EBCM/EBTCM.
