Testing Procedure

  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to on position, with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTCs are set, diagnose accordingly. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
  3. If DTC C1278 is set , go to step  5 . If DTC C1278 is not set, go to next step.
  4. Start engine, and drive vehicle above 10 MPH while monitoring scan tool for DTCs. Repeat this drive cycle 2 more times. If DTC C1278 did not set in last 3 drive cycles, system is okay. If DTC C1278 set in last 3 drive cycles, go to next step.
  5. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If on-board diagnostic system check passes, perform ABS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . If on-board diagnostic system check does not pass, perform repairs recommended in self-diagnostics.
