Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Check for PCM DTCs. If no PCM DTC is stored, DTC C1275 may have set due to a hot engine or a hot transaxle (both normal conditions). No repairs should be made to the ETS System.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. If any ABS or PCM DTCs are set, diagnose accordingly. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
  3. Clear DTCs. Turn ignition off, then on. If DTC C1275 resets, go to step  5 . If DTC C1275 does not reset, go to next step.
  4. Start engine and drive vehicle at greater than 10 MPH. Accelerate from a standing stop using adequate throttle to induce traction control. Repeat this driving cycle two more times. If DTC C1275 sets during last 3 drive cycles, go to next step. If DTC C1275 does not set, see INTERMITTENTS & POOR CONNECTIONS  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  5. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If on-board diagnostic system check passes, go to next step. If on-board diagnostic system check does not pass, perform repairs as indicated in self-diagnostics.
  6. Replace EBTCM.
