Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When DTC is displayed on the Scan Tool, it will be followed by two more numbers which should be noted along with any other DTCs that may be displayed. The additional two numbers displayed with DTC are to help determine the cause of the internal malfunction.

  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM harness connector. Check EBCM/EBTCM and harness connector for damaged, pushed out or miswired terminals. Repair as necessary and go to next step. If no damage if found, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect all connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Test drive vehicle above 15 MPH for several minutes. If DTC resets, go to next step.
  4. Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
