Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Check brake fluid level. If brake fluid is at proper level, go to step  4 . If brake fluid level is low, go to next step.
  3. Inspect hydraulic brake system for leaks. Repair and/or replace any components that show signs of leakage.
  4. Turn ignition off. Inspect brake fluid indicator switch and connector for poor terminal contact, damaged terminals and terminal corrosion. Repair as necessary. If brake fluid indicator switch and connector is okay, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect brake fluid level indicator switch connector. Insure brake fluid is at normal level. Using DVOM, check for continuity between terminals "A" and "B" of brake fluid level indicator switch. If continuity is present, go to next step. If switch is open, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace brake fluid level indicator switch.
  7. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Disconnect brake fluid level indicator switch connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between terminal B of brake fluid level indicator switch and ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If circuit is open, find and repair cause of open circuit.
  8. Repair circuit No. 209 for short to ground.
