Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Pump motor is part of Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) and is not serviceable separately.
NOTE: Solenoid valve control relay is integral to the EBCM/EBTCM and is not serviceable separately.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector only. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal "D" and ground. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  4 . If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Repair circuit No. 251B for open or high resistance.
  4. Remove EBCM/EBTCM from BPMV and inspect for damage, corrosion, or presence of brake fluid. If okay, go to step  6 . If damage, corrosion, or presence of brake fluid exist, go to next step.
  5. Replace EBCM/EBTCM and/or BPMV assemblies.
  6. Replace BPMV. After repairs, go to step  7 .
  7. Reconnect all connectors and clear all DTCs. Turn ignition off then on. If DTC 1243 sets, go to next step. If no current DTCs are set, see INTERMITTENTS & POOR CONNECTIONS  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  8. Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
