Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Buick Regal and 1999 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Pump motor is part of Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) and is not serviceable separately. Electronic brake control relay is integral to the EBCM/EBTCM and is not serviceable separately.
  1. Perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM/EBTCM connector. Connect pinout box and adapter cable to harness connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between pinout box terminal "D" and ground. If resistance is not 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  4 .
  3. Repair open or high resistance in circuit No. 251B.
  4. Remove EBCM/EBTCM from Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV). Inspect EBCM/EBTCM for terminal damage or presence of brake fluid. If unit is okay, go to step  6 . If unit needs repair, go to next step.
  5. Replace EBCM/EBTCM and/or BPMV.
  6. Using DVOM and Connector Test Kit (J-35616-A), measure for continuity between pump motor terminals and pump motor case. If there is not continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace EBCM/EBTCM.
  8. Replace BPMV.
