Speedometer &/Or Odometer Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to DLC and turn ignition on. Select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) special functions IPC gauges on scan tool. Perform speedometer gauge sweep. Speedometer should go from 0 MPH to maximum speed and back to 0 MPH smoothly. If speedometer gauge sweep test is okay, go to POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE - EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If speedometer gauge sweep test is not okay, go to next step.
  3. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
