Key-In-Ignition Chime On With Driver's Door Open & Key Not In Ignition

  1. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C-2. Remove key from ignition switch. Use DVOM to measure resistance between BCM connector C-2 terminal B12 (Light Green wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If reading is infinite (zero) resistance, go to next step. If reading is other than infinite (zero) resistance, go to step  3 .
  2. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ALERO & GRAND AM article. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  3. Ensure key is removed from ignition switch. Disconnect ignition switch connector C-1. Use DVOM to measure resistance between ignition switch connector C-1 terminal "B" (Light Green wire) and ground. If reading is infinite (zero) resistance, go to step  5 . If reading is other than infinite (zero) resistance, go to next step.
  4. Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  5. Repair short to ground in Light Green wire. After repairs, recheck system operation.
