Chime Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 16-pin (Gray) connector C-1. BCM is located below right side of instrument panel near blower motor. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between BCM connector C-1 terminal B8 (Brown wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  6 .
  2. Use DVOM to measure voltage between BCM connector C-1 terminal A8 (Purple wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  8 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM 24-pin (Gray) connector C-2. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between BCM connector C-2 terminal B9 (Pink wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  10 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM 24-pin (Pink) connector C-3. Turn ignition on. Use DVOM to measure voltage between BCM connector C-3 terminal A12 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  12 .
  5. Use DVOM to measure voltage between BCM connector C-3 terminal B1 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to step  19 . If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  14 .
  6. Backprobe with DVOM to measure voltage between right instrument panel junction block connector C-1 terminal C4 (Brown wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  18 .
  7. Repair open in Brown wire between right instrument panel junction block and BCM. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  8. Backprobe with DVOM to measure voltage between left instrument panel junction block connector C-1 terminal B9 (Purple wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  17 .
  9. Repair open in Purple wire between left instrument panel junction block and BCM. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  10. Backprobe with DVOM to measure voltage between underhood wiring harness junction block connector C-3 terminal C4 (Pink wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  16 .
  11. Repair open in Pink wire between underhood wiring harness junction block and BCM. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  12. Backprobe with DVOM to measure voltage between right instrument panel junction block connector C-3 terminal A12 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  18 .
  13. Repair open in Orange wire between underhood wiring harness junction block and BCM. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  14. Backprobe with DVOM to measure voltage between left instrument panel junction block connector C-1 terminal E7 (Orange wire) and ground. If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, go to step  17 .
  15. Repair open in Orange wire between underhood wiring harness junction block and BCM. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  16. Replace underhood wiring harness junction block. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  17. Replace left instrument panel junction block. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  18. Replace right instrument panel junction block. After repairs, recheck system operation.
  19. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ALERO & GRAND AM article. After repairs, recheck system operation.
