Scan Tool Inoperative

- Remove scan tool from DLC. Connect test light between ground and DLC terminal No. 16 (Orange wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Also see appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If test light comes on, go to step 3 . If scan tool does not come on, go to next step.
- Repair open in Orange wire between DLC and ground. Reconnect scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If scan tool does not power up, go to next step.
- Connect test light between DLC terminals No. 5 (Black/White wire) and No. 16 (Orange wire). If test light comes on, go to step 5 . If scan tool does not come on, go to next step.
- Repair open in Black/White wire between left instrument panel junction block and DLC. Reconnect scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If scan tool does not power up, go to next step.
- Connect test light between DLC terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange wire). If test light comes on, go to next step. If scan tool does not come on, go to step 7 .
- Scan tool may be inoperative. Check scan tool manufacture's manual. After repairs, go to DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Repair open in Black wire between DLC and ground. Reconnect scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to DATA LINK COMMUNICATIONS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If scan tool does not power up, go to step 6 .
