Tachometer Is Inoperative Or Inaccurate
- If INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK was performed, go to next step. If INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
- Connect scan tool. Using scan tool, check for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DTC DEFINITIONS table.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, establish communication with IPC. Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS under main menu. Select OUTPUT CONTROL. Select TACHOMETER GAUGE SWEEP TEST. Tachometer gauge should perform a full sweep when commanded. If tachometer gauge does not operate as specified, go to next step. If tachometer gauge operates as specified, locate and repair problem in crankshaft position sensor system. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacing IPC, recheck system operation.
