Parking Brake Reminder Chime Inoperative
- Start engine. Firmly hold brake pedal and shift transmission into Drive. Note operation of Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Shift transmission to Park and turn vehicle off. If DRLs come on when transmission is shifted into Drive, go to next step. If DRLs do not come on when transmission is shifted into Drive, go to step 7 .
- Perform BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. Go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to DLC and check for PCM DTCs. If PCM DTCs are present, repair as necessary. Go to POWERTRAIN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - GASOLINE - EXCEPT METRO, PRIZM & TRACKER article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no PCM DTCs are present, go to next step.
- Use scan tool to monitor PARK BRAKE SWITCH input status. Apply and release parking brake. If scan tool indicates PARK BRAKE SWITCH status as ON with parking brake applied, go to step 6 . If scan tool does not indicate PARK BRAKE SWITCH status as ON with parking brake applied, go to next step.
- Apply parking brake. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Disconnect BCM connector C-1. Connect test light between BCM connector C-1 terminal D5 (Orange/Black wire) and ground. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light comes on, go to step 10 . If test light does not come on, go to step 8 .
- Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Apply parking brake. Start engine. Firmly hold brake pedal and shift transmission into Drive. Note operation of chime. Shift transmission to Park. Turn engine off. If BCM sounded the park brake reminder chime with the parking brake applied and transmission in Drive, go to step 9 . If BCM did not sound the park brake reminder chime with the parking brake applied and transmission in Drive, go to step 10 .
- Repair open or poor connection in Light Blue wire between DRL module and parking brake switch. After repairs, go to step 11 .
- Repair open or poor connection in Orange/Black wire between DRL module and BCM. After repairs, go to step 11 .
- System is okay. Recheck operation and go to step 11 .
- Replace and reprogram BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. After repairs, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Connect scan tool to DLC and check for BCM DTCs. If BCM DTCs are present, go to appropriate DTC diagnosis and repair procedure in BODY CONTROL MODULES - INTRIGUE article. If no IPC DTCs are present, system is okay.
